How to increase your average speed (But it’s a silly metric to focus on)

There's the obvious, the not so obvious, and the silly. But more importantly, it is likely better to focus on something else because focusing on speed may be detrimental to your cycling. 🙋 Support the vlog by becoming a channel member: ruclips.net/channel/UCsGxd7p4pnuunAleM5qDcTgjoin 🚴 VILLAIN CYCLES - villain.shop/ 📧 VILLAIN CYCLES NEWSLETTER - eepurl.com/hh9BuH 😋 villaincyclesph...

It looks very fun to ride where you are. Is it Philippines?
Really nice insights
i have mine and can easily be sync with my CP to upload data, also with coospo application you can use you CP for a larger view in case you want, or if your coospo bike computer bugged down....

Will a regular 29er wheel fit the taper cast ? Until what tire size ?
I plan to do this climb during my 150km ride 3 days from now
I agree fully if you add 10mm to each number on the screen
Ice cold coke will do it😊
May i know your height and size in midnight special? I am 5’11 but am quite confused if i should get a 54 or 56.
Do you put anything on your bike frame to prevent any scratches from the top tube bag?
no i dont. But I think you can purchase bicycle wrap stickers for touch points. The truth is I don't care too much about the look of my personal bike haha the more worn it looks the better i like it
mingawon man sad tag bike sa imong mga videos
haha bike na!
have you seen that amazing dude who did a 600km audax with a single speed and flat pedals 🤯🤯🤯
oh ya? haha where? There was a fixed gear film (that super inspired me to do a round cebu) a few years ago that documented guys who did about 500+km. It's called "En Masse".
I did 2 - 600km in May riding straight through the night. May 4 it was 8,000 meters May 18 only 4000 meters (R60 sub 24 hours total time) Good luck on your event it can be done. I prefer riding straight through instead of trying to nap for 2-4 hours and then trying to get back on the bike. Tried to find you on Strava 😢
yup i really want to give that a try. I haven't yet and im curious to see how the body responds. MY strava www.strava.com/athletes/26879523
@@carlovillarica ha ha I see my mistake I was looking for “Carlos” not “Carlo” 😂 You’ll be fine if you keep your carbs high during the night. People try to eat more hardy overnight because 1. They think they need to replenish from riding all day 2. They’re hungry because they haven’t been keeping their feeding schedule or their carbs specifically high enough. Looking forward to your results.
Good luck on the upcoming Audax man! 600 ain't a joke, ensure that handlebar fits your liking for long duration ride
Thanks bai! Let's ride soon!
@@carlovillarica z2 ride before nbr!!
See you this Saturday bruv and glhf haha 🚲🚲🚲
Oh nice! See you soon!
did you experience this too in your magene C406? there are times when my C406 stops recording on its own so it does not record the whole distance of the ride. like if the total distance is 7km, it only records 5-6km. is there a way to reboot the cyclocomputer?
Hi Ryan - I have not tried it. Since posting this video, I started working with the folks who bring Magene into the Philippines. They have really good customer service. Are you in the Philippines? You can try giving them a message facebook.com/SPNcycleph
I'll be doing the balamban 200 on Saturday for Audax, but I haven't been riding the past 2 months. Good luck nalang nato para ani HAHAHAHA
oh nice! I'll see you bai!
omg 600 is too much for no sleep!! take care of yourself. i also have a race in 2 weeks but it's "only" 220km and 3000m of elev. all i know is that we will prevail, there is no other option!!
Good luck man! REmember to have fun! haha
I'll go trainer
the powermeter pedals are tempting though haha
see you in audax sir Carlo, will be doing the 100km this year for chill ride
see you!!
Carlo please sleep in between. Sleep deprived hallucinations are real.
hey tito! Yup! I'll see how the body handles it. If I have to sleep, I definitely will.
Looks good
Thanks!
Sir, May tatanong lang po sana. Sabi mo you dont change anything. Deretso lang po ba nyo sinalpak ung fork na wala na kayong ni lagay. Or ni lagyan nyo pa ng crown race? Sana ma sagot nyo sir. Salamat
There probably is a crown race, but it is likely the one that was on my bike already.
Got those on my single speed 29er! Decent tires, but they definitely don't feel fast! Not slow ,but not fast either!😢 Silent...I love that! Cool looking bike btw! 🙂Greetings from Croatia from Kris 😎
hey kris! Thanks for watching and giving your two cents.
@@carlovillarica Sure 😊
Or go solo.
Solo has its perks as well.
Love a good gravel ride, where are you based in Philippines would love to come out and ride there.
I'm at Cebu
as for most and any group ride, the 1st formula is the most important hahaha and of course, coffee stop is a must!
sayang we didn't ride wednesday. Next time!
@@carlovillarica its okay the weather sucked hahaha there is always a next wednesday man!
awesome review -- thanks for posting!

Need to watch this first because I'm a filipino and we dont have a place where up hill don't exist..😅
THanks for watching! Hello from Cebu Philippines!
You say when you run out of storage you run out but can’t you transfer the files you recorded to the computer and delete off the insta360 Go? so that won’t be an issue
yes that's true
You both seem like very nice people!
Thanks!
Hi, how many bottle cages can you attach?
I attached two. But the space between the two cages are surprisingly small. I had to look for bottle cages that weren't particular big
@@carlovillarica thanks 😁
just bought my Magene T600 today in preparation for the rainy days and incoming kid. I also plan to use this to train during weekdays and to be able to complete an audax and win races soon.
nice! Go for it! I just used the t300 today since it was raining. At least I got the training in.
Any plans to do a 032-ish podcast type of content on this channel? BTW I sometimes listen to your podcast during my morning walk. Nabalik2 na nako ang fave episodes. 😊😊
oh nice! haha No plans yet. We'll see if I can find a reliable podcast partner. Out of curiousity, which ones were your fave episodes?
@@carlovillaricathe ones with the guests that I knew already but never heard their story until I listen to your podcast. Franz Deadways, Russel Manaloto, Catski, Kristian Lim, Happy Garaje, Meriam and Uzi...
Indoor riding is so convenient. I'm an amateur in competitive cycling though in my opinion, pedal based power meters are much worth since you can use it indoor and in the real world. (dumb trainer + pedal based power meter setup) Anyway, I still enjoyed this video 😊
Yup! I'm thinking about the power meters for sure. We'll see haha
i have the same, but white colour. Its best road bike )
nice!
can i ask how tall you are? i see you're running a 54cm frame
I'm 5'8"
so im at the edge of its fit. If I had a chance to switch to a size down, I probably would. But the 54 fits fine still
For me 32c is the smallest
im almost leaning to that also haha
Nice
Thanks!
Average speed depends on climbs or no climbs
True!
We can all agree that once in awhile, pushing yourself further is fun as hell
True!
Speed is the most irrelevant part of cycling for me :D I also own a Canyon Inflite which is my gravel, road do it almost all bike and an MTB hardtail . Adventuring is my goal, I also like wearing comfy clothes and just have fun. Speed obsession is the thing least relevant for me ...
Yup I wish more people thought this way. Cycling doesn't have to be a "sport"
Just like what I've experienced this last Audax Subic 600, focusing on average speed messed up my achilles tendon. Should have focused on my heart rate just like what I did last Audax 400 in Bohol, exploring and adventuring.
Yup! I'm doing the Cebu Audax 600 very soon. We'll see what happens
Focusing on speed will ruin your moment on the saddle and you will miss all the beautiful place esp when you are in the mountains...so I rather ride solo so I can pace myself whatever I want to.
thanks for sharing!
Ever since I watched one of your vlogs in the past I stopped worrying about my speed. I also stopped posting my rides on strava because it's just another avenue for me to feel bad about myself (i.e. by comparing myself to others) and I don't want that in my life. All I ever wanted was for not to get dropped. Whenever there are group rides, I just want to stay on the group's pace and that's why I started investing on a power meter. It helped me figure out how much power I could exert in an hour,, and how I can improve on that. Power is the most objective metric, because it will show you the amount of effort you put into the pedal, regardless of headwind or tailwind (side note, one time I noticed that I wasn't exerting too much effort and yet I was going too fast, then I realized that I was riding on a tailwind when I looked at the grass movement around me). Based on learnings, I noticed that you don't need to always push hard on the bike to go fast - as odd as it sounds, polarized training or riding easy for longer periods of time helps build aerobic capacity which translates to longer sustained efforts on the bike. Which is probably why Zone 2 or endurance rides has become my favorite activity on the bike. It definitely helped me catch up with my group and better enjoy my bike. In the end I ride my bike to have fun and explore new places. Everything else is secondary. But that's just me.
Thanks for sharing! Yup I do something very similar. The polarized training has helped a lot. And zone 2 rides outside are one of my favorite rides to do.
P English English pa. Muka namang indio 😂
Planning your route is very important. I often make the mistake of not planning, then 30km of my 100km cycle is though a forest, hills and sand 😆
those are fun though!
Hello, may I ask for the rider's height? I'm 5'4 and also looking forward to buy a Trinx GTR in size 46
Hi sorry I wish I could help you. i don't know his height
